Hello friends,
I know this is coming a bit late but this is a review i wrote earlier but didn't post. This is my first album review on this blog so i'll keep it asap(i mean As Short As Possible not As Soon As Possible).
I don't think the Bariga representing rapper needs any more intro, especially since his first track "E NI DURO" shook the charts and the streets like a bad storm. Ever since that single track L A MIDE has since grown from a relatively uknown rapper to a house-hold name.
With a voice that reminds you of Lil Wyne, a style that reminds you of Dagrin(R.I.P) and lyrics in both Yoruba and English that could make you go wow Olamide has distinguished himself.
Olamide droped his album on the 21st of March, he featured a host of artists both new and the vets. He featured acts like Ajasa, Cabasa, Adol, Sugar boy and the rest.
Undoubtedly E NI DURO which is one of the best songs on the album, totally exhibited Olamide's lyrical abilities. He rhymed flawlessly and his fusion of both Yoruba and English was wonderfull. In my opinion it was the perfect song for exposure.
Another song of note is "I'm going in" feat pheelz. The chorus was well written and Pheelz totally did justice to it. Olamide also did justice to the track, beautifull concept and like always the lines were on point.
Omo to shan feat Wiz Kid is another great track. Olamide totally killed it and wiz kid was sort of ok on the track. Any girl you tell the wordings on that track should be smiling in minutes (no try am o).
"This is for the layydies". Jara on top. For me that's the best track on the album, that's a flawless track. The lines were all on point, lyrics are exactly what a girl would like to hear, the chorus is there and Olamide's voice totally did justice. This is really the kind of track any lady would like.
Apa ti jabo ooo Jesuuu. This is another track that exhibited Olamide's lyrical abilities. Rendered in his usual style of Yoruba and English. Apa ti jabo showed humour and the ability to use metaphors effectively.
Lastly, the track feat 2phat, Emi buruku ni, is something for everybody to dance to. The track is also a really good one by Olamide, very groovy and it has Ok lines.
In conclusion, Rapsodi is a wonderfull album, a good one for an artist that is tipped to be the next Dagrin. Olamide is a work in progress although he sometimes shows his only flaw, which is also a flaw of almost all Nigerian artists: Rhyming just for Rhymes sake and not to make sense. But on the bright side this is an artist that has the potential of being Naija and even Africa's best.
I'll rate Rapsodi a 4 star album from a possible 5 star.
The major arguement right now is the comparism of who's better Olamide or Wiz kid. That's a topic for another day.
Yours,
the critic.
